Who Likes Date Night ?

May 20, 2018

Let’s just say half of my day was well rested.

I slept until 1pm this afternoon! I could not believe the time when I looked at my phone. I sat right up in disbelief but at the same time relieved. It was like a mini coma. I was actually able to sleep which meant my body truly needed it. To make up for the time lost I stayed locked up in front of the computer. Right away I got started with my writing. For an hour I did not move. Not to use the bathroom, drink, or eat.

Around 2 pm I decided to crack the seal on the door. For breakfast/lunch I made myself some pancakes. I also had a sad cup of coffee to go with it. My mother’s friend brought back a bag of ground up coffee from Cuba. Either it was made wrong or it just did not taste good. I had to get rid of it and for a true coffee drinker that was difficult to do.

Digest in peace.

After eating I sat in my computer chair and set Twitch to stream. My best friend, the gamer, was playing with another buddy of ours. They were enjoying the new release of a game called State of Decay 2 for the PC. I wanted to get the game myself but it was impossible since I do not own an Xbox or Windows 10.

Feeling a bit sidelined and having the urge to game out, I played Call of Duty: World at War. This has become my new love for the PS4 completely replacing Fortnite. Truthfully, I do not remember the last time I actually got into a game. It was fun while it lasted.

After about an hour I stopped playing and shut everything down. The place needed some tidying up. Clothes needed to be folded and hung up, bottles need to be put into the recycling bag, and the trash needed to be taken out. My girlfriend was coming over so yeah.

Our time to shine.

She showed up around 7pm looking cute as ever. Demin jeans, black tank top, and her favorite olive-green sneakers. He hair was let loose and undone. Her face bare from no makeup. A masterpiece!

I jumped in the shower shortly after her arrival. We were having date night so I got ready to go quickly. As I was just about finished my sister shows up with her little guy. Now when he shows up all time stops and attention is drawn his way. My girlfriend wanted to see him before we left but I did not think he would wake up in time. She got lucky.

We left them around 8 and headed to Houlihan’s which is an American casual restaurant and bar. I have been talking about eating there for months so tonight we took the time to go. To start off we ordered drinks. Raspberry peach sangria for her and a raspberry Moscow mule for myself. They were made very well! Thank you, Chris!

Dinner was actually funny. We had one reason for eating there…

[Back Story: a few months ago, we had our first experience at Houlihan’s and we enjoyed ourselves very much. At the time we stuck to soda and water and we order the most interesting sounding meals. She ordered Korean Chicken and I the New Orleans Jambalaya. While both dishes were good, hers was the best. Since then I have wanted it for myself.]

… to have their Korean Chicken. So, for dinner we order the same thing, “Marinated chicken breast, gochujang sauce (a Korean hot chili paste), charred pineapple brown rice, garlic green beans, pineapple relish. [fried]” It was delicious

After stuffing our faces, we headed back home. It was time to sit back and spend the next 2 hours, 10 to 11:40pm, watching the “The Good Doctor.”

5 Steps to Conquering the Impossible!

Secrets from Ben Nemtin’s Powerful Commencement Address

Ben Nemtin, the star of the MTV show The Buried Life, gave a very inspirational commencement speech to the 2018 graduates at the University of Utah. Listening to it touched me in a way where I would never forget it. His words were powerful and true to heart.

I was taught a valuable lesson, ‘Never Stop Dreaming.‘ We all have dreams and wishes that we would like to see become a reality. Our dreams are unique in their own special way to each and every one of us. Whether it is a bigger home, functioning vehicle, better health or a cleaner Earth we each have something to aim for. I know that one day I would like to have a pilot’s license and own a plane. When it happens, it will be one of the biggest accomplishments in my life. So, let’s take Nemtin’s words to heart and start to dream again by making our own bucket list.

Peter Economy, author of several titles like Managing for Dummies and Build the Right Product, summarized Nemtin’s speech as simply as possible. He has gathered and listed the 5 steps to conquering the impossible.

  1. Write down your dream

No longer is your dream just a thought – writing it down makes it tangible and gives it life. Nemtin emphasizes that studies show people who write down their goals are 40 percent more likely to succeed. “That’s an easy 40 percent,” he says. “Take it.”

  1. Talk about your dreams

Although Nemtin asks that we remember we can do anything, he does make it a point to remind us that accomplishing things all by yourself is impossible. As he says, help shows up in the most unexpected ways, and “if you don’t talk about your dreams, no one can help you.”

  1. Persist

In a world where you fail because you give up, increase your odds of success by persisting. In fact, “success depends on consistency of effort as much as it does on the quality of work.”

  1. Take moonshots

If “99 percent of the world does not believe they can do great things” then 99 percent of people are shooting for mediocre goals. Not only does a big dream give you purpose and attract the right people to you, but when you shoot for unrealistic goals and for the stars, you will face less competition!

  1. Give

When you give, others will see you in the world helping other people, and they will want to help you as well. But beyond that, giving back will bring you a greater sense of fulfillment.

Rain, Rain, Go AWAY!

May 19, 2018

Today is the big day! I will be out from AM to late PM!

The worst part about waking up and knowing you have a long day is looking out the window as rain pours down. I woke up at 8:30 to the sound of it hitting my air conditioner. My original goal was to get up at 8 but last night I went to bed late so that did not happen. Either way I had more than enough time to get dressed and have the most important meal of the day, breakfast.

I left my house at 10:25. The GPS estimated that I would make it to my destination with a half hour but I do not think it included slow drivers due to rain. People were driving either too fast over the speed limit or way below it. I might have been the only one actually driving normal. People need to be safer.

Work, rain and no way out.

I arrived at a school where a fundraiser was taking place after the estimated time, 11:10. To be honest I was not in a hurry whatsoever. It was raining and I did not want to be in. But it was for a good cause and the organizer make it clear that cancelling was not an option. She wanted us there no matter what. It sounds good but not when the weather consists of a dark sky and clouds full of enough water to last hours. We would have definitely canceled.

For 4 hours we sat on our hands as the raindrops trickled down our window. They had more vendors, seven to be exact, than needed. There were more staff and students present than anything. Besides them there were EMTs, firemen and police. It was understandably vacant. The worst possible day to raise money for any occasion.

In between, since we had plenty of time, I stepped out for a bit. We were 5 minutes from Mitsuwa, the Asian market from Wednesday, so I left the lady I work with to go shopping. I did not go for any reason in particular, mainly snacks and our lunch. Like I said on Wednesday this place has amazing food. Today we went with rice balls from Omusubi Gonbei! Two salmon, one spicy tuna and one mentaiko (“spicy seasoned cod roe”).

Time for a marriage

Around 4:30pm we left the “fund raiser” and headed to our next gig. We were invited to serve at a wedding for a young couple taking the next step in their relationship. On the way there I ended up passing the entrance to the field club where the celebration was being held. I literally got lost right around the corner from the place but at the same was given the opportunity to view the real estate. The houses I saw were beautiful and unique. I have been to many different places but these houses were truly something. Perfect visual to aid in my dream home ideas. Envision it and it shall appear!

After finding my way we set up and were ready to go. The wedding was a success. She said ‘I do’, he said ‘I do’, and no one had cold feet. The best part of it all is that the rain stopped for their entire wedding. It is said that rain is good luck but I think that’s crap. Who wants a wet dress or wet suit, right? No matter, the newlyweds had a great time, their guest enjoyed the ceremony and the night ended in victory. Congrats!

It ends here.

As soon as we started to pack up, 9:30pm, the rain continued from earlier. I swear it help up just for that lovely couple. I hoped I would be home before it started again but my hopes were shot down. I knew it would rain again but luckily it was more like a misty drizzle and not a full on down pour.

I was home by and ready for bed at 12. Unfortunately, me being ready and actually going to bed were two different things. I had a small conversation with my mother to see how her day went, I was surprised to know she was awake. Then I stayed after that messing around with WordPress creating new categories and typing things up. I spent more time than expected but was finally in bed by 1am.

While we were there we had some great food. Barbeque brisket, glazed turkey and fantastic cornbread.

Flew Right Through It !

May 18, 2018

Woke up at 5:30am this morning!

Talk about getting up before the sun. There was not a single movement out on the streets. Not even a cat. I laid back down in the hopes to get an extra hour or two in. I tried my best but then woke up at 7 to move to my car. Again, I laid back down to try and sleep some more making 8:10 my official time of getting out of bed. Throughout the whole up and down business, I did not really sleep. I laid there with my eyes closed, tossing and turning.

But I was not tired. Since I did not get up my body rested.

Work started at 10:30, in Short Hills, which meant mall trip. It has become an important part of working in this area. The mall is convenient in the mornings when it comes to killing time and getting coffee. Today’s plan was to stop by Express to get a new blazer but as I went through my wallet something I needed was missing. I received two coupons, great discounts, that I thought were hidden behind my debit card for safe keeping. Unfortunately, as I went to pull them out to check the date, it was for a completely different place. I know the coupons exists but, where are they?  Since that was a plan was a bust I headed straight to Starbucks to pick up two cups of coffee. For me, the usual Matcha Green Tea latte and for the lady I work with an Americano, no milk or sugar.

I got to the building we serve at by 10:20am. Of course, I am still early because being late makes me feel weird. For 10 mins I sat in my car with the windows cracked, latte in my hand and book on my lap. I do not get many opportunities or needs to read so when the chance arises I take it. After a few pages were turned my phones vibrates from a text message. The lady I work with is not feeling well and ended up driving in the complete opposite direction from me.

I made a mistake and heading to jc. Changing the direction now.”

Jersey City to Short Hills from where she lives is a distance. She was going to be at least 15 minutes behind. It was not good for her but for me it worked out. I was given another 15 minutes to read.

We tried our best.

We were left with one option, open late. Normally it would have been something that made us panic but to be honest it would not have mattered if we were on time or not. The weather was horrible, cloudy, windy, cold. All bad signs for good business. But we did not let our time go to waste. Tomorrow we have a big day so we prepared for it the best we could.

By 3:20pm we were finished. As expected not many people came out to see us. I was home around 4, showered up and taking a breather in my computer chair playing Dragon Ball Legends. This game has easily become my new joy in life. The story is amazing, the graphics are beautiful and system functions so well. I love it!

My Time!

Afterwards I jumped on WordPress and set Google Play Music to Stream through the Chromecast Ultra. I needed to finish up a few things for tomorrow. I also separated some of my posts by adding a new section called Motivation. This is where I will be posting articles that I find interesting and helpful to others along with my monthly reads. I plan to add a bunch of new articles to the section as soon as possible, time willing.

Finally completed I went to spend some time with my nephew. The little guy is adorable in every way. He is getting the hang of sitting up now which is excited. He also figured out how to feed himself his baby snacks too. Proud uncle moments! While he had snacks, I had myself a single Italian hot dog stuffed in pizza bread with potatoes and ketchup from Dickie Dee’s Pizza. Normally it comes with onions and peppers as well but they do not call my attention. As I ate, Blindspot” streamed on the TV. I got to watch two amazing episodes before my girlfriend came over around 8:30. Then the show was switched over to “The Good Doctor” for the remainder of the night.
