I did not expect to wake up early today.
Today was a snow day. I planned on waking up around 10, making myself some coffee, checking on the world, doing some light reading and a couple of other things.
At 7:45am I was woken up. My sister and nephew are here. I am not a big morning person so I usually prepare myself the night before. I remind myself I have to wake up at a certain time, set my alarms, sometimes I even prepare my clothes. This morning I was completely unprepared. I set my mind up for a completely different day. The good thing is that I am great at getting started last minute!
With my nephew set up in bed and bottle in hand, I head to the bathroom to freshen up. I brush my teeth, wash my face off, and push my hair back in a messy manner. Before that, I grab my Bluetooth and jump on my morning conference call. I have to say, babysitting my nephew keeps me on track. If it were not for him I would have skipped the call and remained sleeping.
After my nephew fell asleep I made coffee and somewhat of a decent breakfast. This morning I made corn beef hash seasoned with chili powder, black pepper, and garlic. It was mixed with freshly cooked bacon bits, yum, and stuffed in between buttered potato bread. I have made corn beef hash before but always like to try different ingredients. It always sounds good at first but I actually do not enjoy corn beef hash. I just wanted to experiment and will again.
Around 1pm a storm comes rolling over. I was looking out the window washing the baby’s bottle when I witnessed the most bizarre scene yet.
- First it was raining.
- All of a sudden it started to lightly hail. In middle of hailing a LOUD thunder let loose from the sky with a bright bolt of lightning.
- Then snow starts to fall heavy covering everything in a wet blanket of fluff.
I have never witnessed the weather change so rapidly before. I was truly surprised to have seen it. Within an hour I lost that excitement when I realized that shoveling was now an unwanted activity. I did get a nice photo out of it that ended up on Instagram. I wonder how many people would like it?
I did do some light reading but not involving a book. Instead I read multiple online blogs and articles. I am currently in the middle of a great book. (Remember aim for 1 a month.) I started to read it mid-February before I made the decision to go one a month. The book is called How Successful People Think by John C. Maxwell. It is a small read, 124 pages not including the title, acknowledgements, contents, introduction, and notes section, but very powerful. To my understanding this book can be read by a lot of people within an hour but I am still going. My ability to focus is weak and that is why I have set a monthly goal for myself. I want to improve and develop my skills! As Warren Buffet says, “Read 500 pages every day. That’s how knowledge works. It builds up like compound interest.”
